Current:
Sony 51" projection 1 HDMI, 3-4 component, various others
Samsung 5-disc changer/5.1 - 1 toslink input, 1 component output, few others
Need to connect:
PS3 - HDMI, Component Video, Toslink
Cox Cable HD DVR - HDMI, Component Video, Toslink, stereo audio, etc
Wii - Component Video, stereo audio
Also used:
Audio Authority 1154 - 4x input (component video, toslink, stereo audio), 1x output (same)
Current setup:
PS3 video HDMI connected directly to TV, toslink connected to AA1154 input (1st priority slot), AA1154 toslink output connected to 5.1 toslink input
Cable video component and toslink audio connected to 1154 input (2nd priority slot), 1154 toslink output goes to 5.1 toslink input, 1154 conponent output goes to TV
Wii component & stereo audio go directly to TV
Issue:
5.1 DVD changer no longer works. First changer stopped, so I just played DVDs with the PS3. Then the right surround stopped working and the issue was internal.
So, no more DVD changers, two have broken on me. I'm looking either at a receiver(and I'll use the ps3 for DVDs) or a 5.1 HTIB with toslink.
Been doing research all week, do I want a receiver that takes HDMI inputs? Is it DTSHD - will it carry the 5.1 audio over HDMI? Can I watch cable without having to turn the surround receiver on? Should I just stick with my AA1154 and get an inexpensive receiver that has a toslink input?
I'm not an audiophile. I have a 4 year old who's room is above the TV, so loud isn't necessary. The speakers I have are from a 500w HTIB package and they're fine for me. I use the 5.1 for playing Call Of Duty more often than watching movies.
Started looking at the VSX-519H $200 when I found out it didn't pass the 5.1 through HDMI. Looked at the 819H $300 which is nice, but it has to stay on for video to be viewed (no cable viewing w/ stereo) and no upconverting.
Looked at a few other comperable but wonder if it's worth it for a TV that can only handle 780p/1080i.
Opinions?
