IMO, it is simply the fact that it is a somewhat dense and loose material, since sand and cat litter work as well. But who wants cat litter in their speakers or stands? :) *LOL* Espically if the cat cathes wind of this. I would hestitate to fill my speakers with anything that would absorb mositure.
