I'm looking to buy an LCD tv I don't really want to spend a ton of money I'm looking at the sharp aquos 26' and it's 1366x768 and the cheaper gateway is 1280x768 does the sharp have that much of a better picture to justify the couple hundred more dollars that it costs?

I don't know anything specifically about those two tv's. If you can, please post their model numbers. Then do some searches for reviews on those models and see what the experts think.

I will say this though, based on what I've read and seen from these two brands, I'd pick the Sharp, but thats an uninformed opinion. :)

There's a difference between TV and monitor, so make sure you are getting the one you are after. A monitor generally has no sound capability on board, meaning you will have to have some kind of HT/stereo receiver on anytime you wanted to watch TV. I've had a few friends think they were getting a great deal on a TV only to find that it had no speakers.

The sharp will give you a far superior picture, imo.

Monitor implies that there is no onboard tuner and you'll have to rely on another source (i.e. cable/sat box, etc.)

If you were to have any problems with the Gateway TV you will have to send it back to them for any repairs. I have talked to a few people recently that were pretty upset they couldn't find a local place to repair their Gateway plasma that was only 6 months old. Stay with a more reputable TV brand like Sharp, you won't regret it!
