LCD tv for under $600

My girlfriend want to buy me an lcd tv for x-mas This will be replacing my Philips 30" 1080i crt, which is starting to have some geometry problems. She says to just keep the cost under $600 out the door/shipped. It's pretty easy to find a 32" in the $500 range these days. I was hoping to find a 37" in that price range. I was looking at a refurb 37" viewsonic on newegg for $550 with free shipping.

1. What are your opinions on the viewsonic?
2. What is the best (best picture quality, etc) lcd tv for under $600?
3. What is the best bang for the buck lcd tv for under $600?

Compusa irrc is selling the same tv new for the same price(at least i cant find where its a refurb)
IMO the LG 32LB9D LCD TV @599 would be better, but its a thirty two, heck if she will go a little higher you would have a few more options.

The 6th ave plasma is a smoking deal but unfortunately is sold out.
