hello, i have an LCD tv that appears to have burn in. we've had the tv screen on 3:4 setting most of the time, ie: not stretched out unless it's in HD. now on the right side of where the picture is on the 3:4 setting, we've got a red line burnt into the screen and a little bit of red off to the left of it as well. we called Hifi Buys and they sent a guy out who was a complete jerk and told us we should never leave it on 3:4 cos it'll ruin the screen and to leave it stretched out and it'll fix itself. he was very condescending, but we decided to leave it stretched out like he said, but we also went to hifi buys yesterday to report the guy being such a jerk to our normal salesman, from whom we bought the tv a year or two ago. the salesman said that he would take care of the problem since we bought the 5 year warrenty- but that might take a while. is there anything i can do in the meantime to try to fix the problem?
dan.

An LCD that is functioning properly will not burn-in. Dead or stuck pixels are not uncommon, but their occurrence doesn't directly depend on the viewing material so the user could not generally be responsible. Dead or stuck rows or columns are more common with non-TFT LCD panels and they are a definite malfunction, not the user's fault.

Now, if this is a plasma display, that's an entirely different matter :).

nav is pretty much dead on LCDs don't burn in. There are a couple likely things that happened. The more likely is, as nav said, dead pixels. The other which seems less likely given the situation is image ghosting which looks like burn in but given a short amount of time will go away.

Also, I wouldn't bother stretching the image that will not fix this problem at all, it sounds like the repair guy didn't know what he was talking about. I would just wait and get the set exchanged.

While there are many so called fixes for dead pixels that can be fond online but none of them really seem to work.
