OK. I filled myself with so much knowladge on specifics and videophile stuff that when someone asks me a basic question about i don't know the answer. Could use your help.
My father in Law has MS and is near blind. He wants to get a new TV and wants either plasma or LCD. At this point he is leaning towards 42 inches. At first I was thinking LCD becuase it brighter, uses less power and cheaper when looking at smaller sizes. When he said he wanted 42 inches i wasnt sure if plasma or LCD takes the cake.
What is better for someone who wont see major detail in picture? a specifc model may be nice if you know one.
Thank You.
For a 42", I'd recommend a plasma. They're still a bit less expensive at that size compared to the LCD - but probably not for long. Keep in mind many plasma's are simply monitors, so he may need a cable/HD box and speakers which adds cost.
If he could swing a 37", he's better off getting an LCD - at least as far as price goes.
I helped my folks purchase a Syntax Olevia 37" LCD. It's unbelievable - picture and value. It has built in side speakers, and actually looks larger than your typical 42" plasma. What I like about it is the built in HD tuner - just throw a Radio Shack antenna in the attic and get free HD feeds. I also like the dual tuners, where you can watch side by side picture - very cool for sports. The biggest seller is that it was under $1100!
