I have to install a new LCD T.V. that will be hooked up to a stand alone computer that the receptionist with display powerpoint presentations in a lobby for people to look at. It will be in a Realtors office and will display current listings the agents are selling/buying. WHat I need to know is this:
1. What cable should I run to the computer? DVI? There needs to be sound!! Is there a video card that outputs HDMI? So I can have sound and video?
2. What does her computer need to have besides powerpoint?
What they plan on using is the dvd rom on the computer to display dvd's, cd player, and powerpoint.
I plan on running a 2" pvc stub down so I can run whatever cables in the future.
I could use any input you guys have.
Thanks
Cory

I dont think there is a Video Cart that supports HDMI. And if there is it is not going to be cost effective for your problem.

The easiest and cheapest way to do it would be to just get a cheap sound card and get a 1/8" audio out and connect it a to 2-channel stero Y adapter. And run a RCA cable to the tv's stereo input. The whole audio set up should cost very little or nothing if the computer has a on-board audio card (which it probably does).

And get a video card with DVI support. Like this one.

The whole set up should be around $50.

There shouldnt be any addtional software besides Power Point and the software that came with the DVD drive to play DVD's.

You need to also consider the length of the run from the PC to the display. Industry standard for video presentation is still in the analog realm mostly as it is incredibly reliable and works very well, so if you need to go 30 or 40 feet it is easy enough to run a RGBHV cable that distance (or VGA) - and you have to meet building fire codes if you are going through the ceiling's unfinished space.

So, you do have a few choices, but then, you also need to consider what else the receptionist will be doing on the PC while all that is going on. Does the PC actually need to be used while it is presenting?

Alright, heres what you need. Id recomend any computer that has a video card DVI out, or even component out (though that doesnt regularly come on storebought computers). All you have to do is connect the Component cable or DVI cable from the video card to the LCD, and then get a y cable that splits a headphone jack into 2 RCA jacks (L/R Red and White) and plug that into the back of the LCD. That will give you exactly what you are looking for

Where do I find the headphone "y" adapter from the sound card? Also, what 2 cables do I need to run for the left and right audio cables? Do I run them straight from the computer to the back of the t.v.? The dvi has big plugs on the end, what plates do I need for the work boxes so it looks good underneath the computer desk?

You can buy the Y adapter at radio shack for under 5 dollars prob. And just get a cheap RCA cable (red and white cable) and plug the 1/8" mini headphone male connector into the computers audio out(goes to speakers) and connect the RCA cable to the Y adapter and run it strait to the TV.

It is like this one except this one has male connectors coming out of the spliter if the TV is close enough you can use this or just get one that has female connections coming out of the splitter.
