In a dual sub configuration, which would most likely be the better layout (x is the sub)?

l x l x l

or

xl l lx

Once I get the subs I will do my best to try and find the best location for each sub…but WAF may come into play and my choices may get limited to these layouts unless I can dramatically prove an improvement in another location. So basically, the first option allows me to place the subs below my screen spaced out between the main speakers and the center channel. The second option would have the subs loaded tight into each corn with the mains tight right next to them.

Well, I know I will play with the configuration when I get the speakers…I’m just curious what I should expect the better config will be…hopefully I won’t be limited to only these two though.

JMO, but get the speakers right, disregarding all else to begin with. Think subs last is my opinion. After all, your subs are both mono (at least for HT), and should be unlocalizable. That being said, the Harman paper suggests two opposing mid-wall points. Here's the link, its 30 pages or so, but scroll to the very bottom for their rec. I first saw this link attached by RMK at AVS, btw.

If you're not going to go quad subs at any point, the awaited SVS eq is a pretty neat device for two subs with consumer friendly implementation. I believe it gets them in phase for you, and is Audyssey based. I'm curious, even with one single sub for now.
