Recently picked up a pair of HDT-R’s for $100 a piece. I’ve had the HDT-F’s for years but just haven’t put them to use. Generally I’ve always ran 4 towers and a larger center channel with 4 overhead speakers and 4 subs. Upon switching to the bookshelf size HDT’s I’ve found I like the sound exponentially more as my room is relatively small and I’ve always thought that it doesn’t allow for proper distancing and placement of larger speakers. I’m actually going to sell my M5SI’s, OMC2 and OMR2, I’m generally a person who hangs onto every piece of Mirage gear he has but with the HDT’s I feel like there’s no going back. I believe due to my horrible room acoustics direct radiating speakers just perform better than the OMD, OM, Omni and M series I’ve tried over the last years.
