I need your help: I stopped by a electronic shop yesterday and they had a couple of used laserdisc players, both Pioneer, DLV-909 and the CLD-201S, for USD 189 and USD 99, respectively. Both looked in good condition, the 909 didn't have the power cord, the remote or the manual; the 201 didn't have the remote or the manual. I do have 3 LDs, one of them a rare one, "Wham! in China, Foreign Skies" (I also have the VHS), but being a big fan of WHAM and George Michael, I'd love to have the best quality video available and be able to play it, so my question is should I buy any of this used players, or should I copy the LD to DVD. The latter sounds like the most practical idea, but I have no idea where I can have this done in L.A. (I live by LAX). Your help is greatly appreciated.

the 909 is a pretty nice unit. you don't have to flip the disk, it has AC-3 output, and generally sells around $300 on E=bay. For $179, considering it will also play DVDs, it's worth thinking over.:)

there's also nothing quite like the look on a Gen Xers face when you pull out that shiny 12 inch disk.:D
