If you know what you want, price it online with dell. That would seem simple enough. I have heard decent things about Toshiba.

Bought a Sony Vaio with your desired specs for my granddaughter for Xmas at about $649 IIRC. Just never ceases to amaze me the amount or horsepower you can buy for dirt cheap today. This Sony (brand she wanted FWIW) is pretty slick for the money. Just happened to notice it on sale one day at BB and snatched it up.

Check the Wally-World secret sale tomorrow (sale is for Fri, but the add comes out on Thurs). They supposedly have a Gateway for $388. No specs yet, so look it up Thurs. Sale starts at 8 AM. I picked up a Dell from them on BF for the same price. Couldn't resist. 15.4" screen, 2GB, DDR2, 120GB hard drive, etc. Around half price for the one I got. My nephew picked one up the same day, same deal, but his was a Toshiba.
