Laptop hook up issues

Yesterday I tried hooking up my laptop to my HT, and while in general everything worked, there was a fairly noticeable lag between what I was Doing with the mouse what happened on screen.

I was using the HDMI connection between the laptop and the Onkyo TX-SR806 and the Onkyo and the Insignia TV, in hopes that the I would have good sound while gaming - while the sound was good, the apparent lag has me a bit worried.

Does anyone have any ideas about what's going on and how I can fix it?

I had a similar problem with my lappy hooked up to the TV no receiver in my mix. I fixed it by using the game mode on my TV. does your TV offer that feature.

I believe so - I'll have to check.

What exactly does Game Mode do?

To my understanding because most games are fast action the game mode on the TV is suppose to make sure that the TV can keep up with the action on the screen meaning no lag. Now if you do not have this feature or it doesn't seem to work try hooking the lappy to the tv and not to the receiver and see what happens.
