Klipsch is a well known and seemingly well respected brand. However, I definately find their Synergy line to be overpriced. Comparing the SB2s to the Athena AS-B1s, I preferred the Athenas in every respect, and they were 25% less retail ($350 v $260). I've owned SF2s for years and now have NHT SB2s and a Pinnacle Digital Sub 350. With the sub, I prefer the NHTs in every respect (without the sub, I only prefer the SF2s bass performance). The NHTs retail at $400 and the SF2s at $650.

Granted, I prefer a flatter speaker, not the dynamic, in your face sound of the Klipsch. But, when comparing the Athenas to the Klipsch, the Athenas sounded more open, cleaner, more detailed, and less muddied let alone more natural.

Has anyone else found this to be true? My main question is how the reference series speakers stack up to other speakers in their price ranges. Same deal or are they better values?

In my experience, Klipsch makes a very nice product, they just need to reevaluate their pricing. Looking forward to hearing other's opinions.
