I just bought a yamaha rx-v2600....... I am trying to pair some speakers with it(a full surround mostly for sports and movies) and am wondering if the klipsch series that is sold at best buy is worth the cash ????? any suggestions ??? My alternative is the axiom m22 lower end home theater package. My room is roughly 20x18 and I cannot decide since I feel I will be missing out on some sound since the m22's are a little larger than bookshelf speakers but much smaller than floorstanding

thanks,
scott

Klipsch Speakers

I Have Klipsch Refernce 5650 in wall and in ceiling speakers along with the RW-10 Sub. I can say my Yamaha RX-V659 dont have the juice to make them distort. I would just look around online for some reference series speakers. You can most likley get them for the same price as the synergy @ BestBuy. Good luck and for me I'd never buy speakers other than Klipsch.

I think you'd be better off with the axiom system, just ditch the subwoofer. Grab a similar priced Hsu/SVS unit.

What's the budget your considering? Maybe we can help put together a better system. Don't dismiss bookshelfs, a good bookshelf/sub can sound excellent. 5/7.1 system? Mono or multi-poles(bi/di) for surrounds?

I am looking to spend no more than 1500 on a full surround system. Please keep in mind that I mainly watch sports and movies. I have been reading a lot about audio and some seem to talk about losing sound when going with a reference speaker ??? I have also heard I should use five of the same speakers ????? any clarity for this novice ???
thanks
scott

All matching speakers is preferred for multi-channel music, but using multi-pole surrounds for HT is preferred. That doesn’t mean you have to do this. Not sure what YOU mean by “reference speakers”.

Ascend Accoustics CBM-170 SE front pr + CMT-340 SE center + CBM-170 SE surround pr + VTF-2 MK2 sub - $1463 shipped

If you prefer floorstanders for L/R mains, you could get BIC DV64, DV62LCR, DV62si with SVS PB12-ISD on your budget.

scott....avrat is right about the "5 of the same" for music but.....if that were the case for HT why do manufactors make front channels and surrounds that are different? You'll get the best timbre match using the same line of a particular brandname but you dont necessary have to have 5 of the same speakers....

I think the main rule of thumb is to use the same reference line of speakers for the front three and if you want to use different rears you can....

I have different rears from my front three and occasionaly I can tell the timbre is off depending on the content....oh well I dont regret my purchase because the difference wasn't worth $350 to me.

If you've got $1500 and you like Klipsch....I'd go this route:

http://www.klipsch.com/product/list.aspx?line=1257&type=1266

http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.surroundcity.com/KLIPSCH-RF-52-RS-42-RC-52-PACKAGE-P1796C256.aspx&fr=AFMpK2gzLI0J81rx6ucFkaRt1JrCAMo0c9PuhD2EZRmXKQNujk_GYuwAAAAAAAAAAA&sa=X&oi=froogle&ct=result&cd=1

http://www.hsustore.com/stf3.html

rf and rc-52's and rs-42's and a Hsu stf-3 ($1700)...you've got a big room! What is your viewing distance from where the tv and speakers are to your seating?

If you can't quite swing the stf-3 ,go with the stf-2 (svs is also a good alternative....I just think the lower end ones arent as nice looking), .....personally I'd spend the $1500 on the 5 speaker setup and save for a sub down the road....simply because you have a decent size room and you'll want to fill it without pushing your speakers to hard....The Klipsch's do drive very easily which is good.....

Dont short-change yourself on the speakers...you're going to have them for a long time so buy ones you'll be pleased with...The klipsch reference's I linked will not be available at your local best buy unless maybe you have a Magnolia center in it...you'll likely have to find a local dealer that carries the reference line.

The SVS system would do really well. A solid subwoofer and wall mountable speakers.

Like a 'vaulted' ceiling....slants upward.....some people have vaulted or coffered (angles inward and slants up another two feet...I have coffered, so its 10 ft high in most of the room).....9 ft. increases your cubic ft in the room further necessitating the need for better speakers.

The synergy line is much improved in recent years and there is nothing wrong with them.

My 2 cents...
Seek out a dealer and give the reference line a listen. They're still a great value, and they're a better speaker.

klipsch just recently released their new reference line, & dealers who carry the old reference line are dumping them for great prices. i have klipsch rf-7 front, rf-5 dual center, & synergy sf-1 that are used as surrounds. also spent some time listening to the new reference line & while they sound good was not convinced they sounded any better than what i already have. first i would go & see what your 1500 would buy at a dealer closing out the old reference line, & also ask to listen to them if they are no longer set up. 2nd, look online for used speakers of what you want as if the new stock of the old reference line is getting marked down that should also lower what the used speakers are going for unless people are not shopping around. not that there is anything wrong with the klipsch carried in the big retail stores, but you will get alot more for your money looking at the old reference line, whether on sale or buying used.
