I'm building a new home and upgrading my home theater. I've pre-wired for 7.1, so I'm looking at products to support that. I'm looking at Yamaha vs. Onkyo recievers and JBL vs. Klipsch speakers. I'm leaning toward the Yamaha line recievers for the YPAO, but as for speakers, I've seen the JBL SCS 200.7 and 300.7 packages and the Klipsch Cinema 8 and 10 packages, but can't find a local dealer with either package set up for listening. I'm open to other suggestions as well. Any advice would be appreciated.

Between those two, I'd go with the JBL's. Klipsch speakers are too "bright", for my tastes. Paired with a Yamaha receiver, would be extreme brightness, because Yammy's tend to be on the bright side. Need to pair a bright speaker with a warm sounding receiver, and vice versa. If you have Best Buy or Circuit City nearby, go there and listen to the different stuff they have. Listen to anything that is available...........
Good luck!

I'd go with either of the Klipsch packages. They sound great while playing them loud, and don't distort unless your really really cranking them hard. I have a pair of the KSB 3.1's and they take everything I throw at them with my 200 wpc Carver amp I have.

Klipschallthe way. Morenaturaland realsounding.Peoplethat say Klipsch isbright have notlistenedtoKlipschisa long time! Klipsch has the impact that live music has and they come alive with very little power. There are lots of goodspeakerson the market but the consumer end of JBL isnotone of them.

I've always had Onkyo and JBL and think they work really well together. Unless space is really a concern, I would like at JBL Northridge series instead of that SCS package.

Alot of people like Yamaha despite the consensus that they can be bright. I'm not one of them. Yamaha includes too many useless gadgets like 51 different sound fields. Its hard enough to choose between the standards like DPLII and DTS:NEO6. Who needs all those other artifical modes?

Onkyo is also very easy to setup and use. Like their engineers actually thought about how to use the receiver. Yamaha seems to require umpteen button presses to do simple things. Some people swear by them, but I see plenty of complaints too.

Just my opinion, but Onkyo and JBL is a good match for a reasonable price.

I have a Harmon Kardon avr-630 amp and 7.1 jbl surround sound speakers. Paid $745 for receiver and $299 for speakers. Since HK makes JBL speakers it's a awesome set up from J&R Music.com. The receiver is rated at 75 watts per channel(way under rated) I had a yamaha htr5790 receiver, the HK makes the JBL sound more crisp and clean, no distortion. Go with HK and JBL, you will not be disappointed.
