Hello all, I've spent some time reading the forums and admire everyone's knowledge regarding home theatre setups. I am looking at deciding between these two speaker packages and two receivers I listed below. I was hoping someone could give me some insight. I heard both perform at Best Buy for a short time and really didn't determine if there was a clear winner, but I really don't have the trained ear.

Speaker systems:
1. Definitive Technology ProCinema 600
2. Klipsch QUINTET with sw-350 subwoofer
klipsch.com/na-en/products/klipsch-quintet-specifications
klipsch.com/na-en/products/sw-350-specifications

I noticed the Klipsch subwoofer puts out more watts on paper (350 watts / 150 continuuous) than the Definitive Tech (250 watts), is this a significant difference? The Sw-350 is big. But the ProCinema subwoofer looks to have two 8" cones.

Receivers:
1. Yamaha RX-V665

2. Onkyo Tx-SR607

One thing I noticed with the Onkyo is that it sure generates a lot of heat. Perhaps the Yamaha does too. Which one is the better receiver? Or is there a better receiver?

I appreciate everyone's pro's and cons and suggestions.

Yeah, most people here would pick Yamaha over Onkyo.

I think for your budget, the order of preference is like Denon --> Yamaha --> Onkyo.:D

And I think for your budget, most people will recommend other packages besides DefTech or Klipsch, not that there's anything wrong with that.:D

I would pick DefTech personally.:D

Something like SVS, HSU, Behringer, etc.:D

I think you would be very happy with any of those items you have listed. If you don't mind a refurbished receiver, you can get a lot more bang for your buck. Check out ecost.com and accesories4less.com for good prices on refurbished receivers. But I'm also partial to Yamaha and Def Tech since I own 2 systems with yamaha receivers and def tech speakers. But if the Klipsch Quintet system sounds anything like their promedia pc speakers, I think you would be very pleased with those as well.

Here is my input (I'm a klipsch fan who owns def tech speakers currently, and had a denon reciever and now a yamaha).

I am not a fan of the Def Tech ProCinema systems. To my ears they just don't sound as good as the other offerings they have. The Klipsch Quintets seem to get louder and enjoy doing it. Also, that SW350 that Klipsch just released surprises me at how loud it gets for what it is. It is a better sub than the DefTech sub that comes with the ProCinema's.

I understand Best Buy is currently running a special pricing deal if you go with the Klipsch and the yamaha rx-v665. Could be worth taking advantage of. Personally I have been a fan of Denon receivers for the last 10 years, and still have an avr-3802 at the house that I just replaced with a yamaha (only because none of the new denons in my price range had pre-outs for every channel) and I would choose to spend a bit more money and probably get a Denon AVR-790.
