looking for new speakers

I am looking at upgrading my speakers. I first looked at the klipsch f3 package and at pretty much the same price I could go with the axiom grandmaster 500 which looks better but this is a bookshelf package which is fine with me because I'm upgrading from bose. I'm shopping in the $2,000 range but would like to go cheaper if quality is not lost. 20'x14' room, yamaha htr5890, yamaha c750 dvd, moster 3600, "bose speakers"

Axiom speakers

First, I think you will need to step up the Klipsch reference series for comparable performance to Axiom. See Rays recent shoutout which included the Axiom M3ti's.

Second, I think you are selling yourself short with the small bookshelf speakers. I think you should go for at least the M22ti's or possibly the floorstanding M60's for that room. Definately get the larger center and QS8s for surrounds.

To make up the difference, you might cosider a slight downgrade on the sub to a $4-600 model from SVS. You can also get 10% off if you order from the axiom outlet page.

I have the HTR-5890 running the M60ti's, VP150, QS8's. I highly recommend this configuration.

For the sub, SVS PB-10 ISD has gotten rave reviews everywhere and costs only $400.00, so you might want to look at this one to cut cost.

Stay away from the Synergy line of speakers. They are total junk.

the more I look Axiom seems the way to go although I have not heard them yet. I'm thinking of starting of with a pair of m60ti's or possibly the m80ti's with the vp150 center and using my bose to fill out the 7.1. "if the sound lives up to the hype" Is there much difference between the 60's and 80's and is Axiom the best bang for buck as advertised? thanks for the help

Axiom floorstanders

The Axiom M60's or M80's would both make great mains. The M80's are 4 ohm speakers which means that you will need a good mid-fi receiver or an outboard amp to drive them. The M60's are 8 ohms which makes an easy load for any receiver.

The bose satelites cut off pretty high, around 200 Hz, so that won't perfrom well as surrounds. Order the Axioms, sell the bose on ebay, and don't look back.
