I am fairly new to HT area and I am currently building the system. The TV will be Sony SXRD50 LCD and, being a long time Klipsch fan, I am thinking of RF-7 system (fronts, center, surrounds and sub). The receiver will be Yamaha RX-V2500. The room is 16x16 with high celing. The floor is wood. The budget is not an issue. The system will mostly be used as a theatre/movies.

Is RF-7 an overkill in this size of a room?
Does RX-V2500 pair well with RF-7 system?
Any suggestions?

Thx ... J

I am a big Klipsch fan as well, though I don't have the rf-7's I have heard that they are some of the best speakers Klipsch has made. As far as being overkill, my opinion is you can never go overkill on speakers, they are the most important piece in your system.

I've never been a huge Yamaha fan but with those speakers it should sound awesome.

Don't forget the sub, this is one place you also don't want to skimp-on. Hsu and svs are very popular in this forum.

I Think that is going to be a great setup. I do not believe that they are overkill in that room.

The subwoofer is Klipsch RSW-15 unit (part of their RF-7 system). I think that is an excellent sub for my needs/taste.

Hello
I absolutely love the RF-7 series based systems and think they are huge bang for the buck speakers. Klipsch speakers have been around for a long time and there has always been debate as to the merits of their sound. The new THX Ultra II system should also be considered if this is primarily going to be used for listening to movie sound tracks, They are phenomenal

The best thing to do is demo a system in a good listening environment. Places like Good Guys with little demo rooms filled with speakers and glass door's is not a place to demo speakers.

The RF-7, RC-7, and the RS-7 or RB-75 used as surrounds with the RVX-42
Or RB-15 or R-5800W used as EX speakers in conjunction with the RSW-15 will blow you away. We just watched Batman Returns on this system last night and it was an exhilarating experience to say the least;)

You might want to post over at the Klipsch forums and see what people there say about the Yamaha. Generally it seems people have not been impressed with Yamaha receivers, maybe you'll get some suggestions for a better match.

Thanks for that reply.

Any other suggestions on this forum in terms of high-end receiver that would be a good match to RF-7's?

Receivers

Read the Audioholics reviews of the Yamaha RX-V2500 and Denon 3805. They are both very capable mid-fi receivers in the $800 price range. Both also have new models out with extra features like HDMI switching.
The yamaha in perticular, is know for having a transparent pre-amp and amp stage which should work well with any speaker. To compinsate for the speakers response, both units have Parametric EQ functions.

Since Klipsch speakers tend to be very efficient, you probably won't need an external amp for your system.

Also, since budget is not a major issue, you might consider room treatments to optimize your setup. Rugs for the floor and drapes would be a good start.
