Klipsch... or Logitech?

Hello, I've been looking all over for a perfect 2.1 speaker system for my computer to place my college dorm... so far only 2 systems have caught my eye:

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX
Logitech Z2300 THX

Which of these systems would you guys recommend? I see that they both have the same power ratings, except the logitech has a larger sub, yet the Klipsch sub can hit lower frequencies. I've never tested or heard from any of these speakers, but have read really good ratings online for both of them... which one is better overall? Opinions matter! Thanks.

I have heard both and you can't go wrong with either.

Get whichever you can by for less.

In my opinion, you should go with the Klipsch, as i have a variety of Klipsch equipment including the Ultra 2.0 SVR
ProMedia System (which sounds excellent) Also, Klipsch makes much better products than Logitech, IMO

I'm using the Logitech Z5500 and also heard the Klipsch. Logitech sounds sort of like the highs are too high and the base is too much - midrange is a bit weak. (almost as if someone maxed out the treble and maxed out the base). The subs are sloppy. I went with Logitech for the optical input and DTS/DD processing to handle the Xbox360.

Klipsch sounded a lot better, but didn't offer a lot of the functionality I was looking for.

I guess it depends on what your priority is.

Sweet... in that case I'd probably go with the Klipsch... yes, I read a lot of online reviews on the Logitech system and people tend to say the midrange lacks a lot. Midrange is the KEY to music!

Lots of good reviews on the Klipsch, speaker has some pretty good tweeters for the highs, large midrange driver, and the sub had some pretty good reviews on it too, deep tight bass.

My priority is definitely the range of sound of the speaker. Full treble+full bass just won't do :p Don't really care about the ease and design of the speakers (Klipsch has the power switch behind sub)... not a lazy person, so I definitely go for the sound experience.

Only Logitech experience I ever had was the X-230, which I admit was indeed impressive for its size. Guess the higher end logitechs can't compete with the better companies :D Thanks for the opinions.

No problem. Just make sure you read more reviews as I remember something one or more of the Klipsch had problems - they tend to break a lot more easily or something. I can't quite remember what the problem was.

I do know that a friend had a 4.1 system with klipsch a few years back... and two of the speakers died from moderate usage. Could have been an anomaly, but still..... just read up as much as you can.

But yeah, sound quality is way better than Logitech. Logitech is good at making keyboards and mice, not speakers.

Oh, if you're looking for really good sound, you don't have to get "computer" speakers if you have a decent sound card and a spare amp. I've read on PC Gamer that they tested the Paradigm bookshelfs with a Sound Blaster Audigy and apparently it was way better than the dedicated computer stuff.

The problems you are probably speaking of were in the early BASH amps found in the early production 5.1 Ultra systems only, not in the 2.1 systems. To the best of my knowledge there were never any common issues with the ProMedia 2.1 and the (now long discontinued) ProMedia 4.1 series.

Just don't mistake the Klipsch GMX line of computer speakers from their non-GMX line. The GMX are gamer speakers, while the non-GMX are intended for music and multimedia.

ProMedia 2.1s never had problems burning out etc etc. The Ultra 5.1s had screwed up BASH amplification systems, therefore they always overheated and burned out. I myself have a BASH system as well, the Creative MegaWorks 5.1 THX, and I've had this system for almost 2 years, still sounds good as new, guess some systems are just better or "luckier" than some.

I wouldn't have gotten the GMX Promedia anyways since their power ratings are much lower than the ProMedia 2.1 THX. Music and multimedia are definitely my thing, because when I play games I use my headsets 99% of the time, no need for theater quality sounds :p
