Klipsch RB75's VS Polk LSi9's (corrected)

Thanks Sheep for setting me srraight on the correct model numbers!!

Ok, I think it's time to replace my old Cerwin Vega D5's; gonna miss those 12" woofers!!

I'm starting my research and am considering Klipsch LSi9's or Polk RB75's. The Definitive Technology Monitor 450's are just a little too much.

In doing some follow up research I see the Definitive Technology Studio Monitor 450's have a better frequency response for bass.

So I'm looking for your opinions on the Klipsch RB 75's, Polk LSI9's, or the DF 450's?

I have a 1998 Onkyo DS 747, and plan to use these to replace my CV-D5's as the front main speakers. I have smaller PSB Image bookshelf speakers for the surrounds; NO center as yet.

Since the CV's have a good bass sound with the 12" woofers, I looking for something with half way decent base, but I realize that without a sub-woofer I can't get too close to the base I have now.

Worst case is I might end up replacing the one bad woofer in my CV's.

first things first

first, you might wanna check your speakers, as the ones you stated do not exist.:p

the klipsch RB-75s and the polk LSi9s.

Well, the klipsch's will be alot louder, as they are far more efficient.

Polk-88db
Klipsch-97db

and they offer a better bass response on paper.

What kind of sound are you going for? What position(main, surround) will these speakers be filling? Whats the Amp? What size is the room?

what what what:)

The Def Techs should be the least expensive.

Def Tech SM450 -- $660
PM 500 -- $850
PM700 -- $1200

Klipsch RB75 -- $1200

Polk LSi 9 -- $1000

I have the Definitive SM450s and they kick ***, not to say they produce the same amount of bass as 12in cones would. If you have the money buy the PM700s with 250w 8in subs built in. If not then get the SM450's and grab a nice subwoofer later on.
