Hi,
Im looking to replace a 10" Kenwood, 7 Yr old sub with this one. It is the price range that I like and all the customer reviews recommend this bang for the buck. ($387.00) My HT room is 23' X 35' and I would keep the Kenwood as a secondary sub connected to my HT. It is a 7.1 setup mostly used for movies. (music in stereo). I would appreciate any feedback on this sub from Audioholics themselves, or any other suggestions in this price range.

Thnx

Based on hundreds of posts I have read, the pretty much uncontested bang for buck king in the $400 ish range is the SVS PB10. It plays louder and lower than it's competition.

Given the size of your room, if you want to get a tactile feel from the LFEs you will need to two subs I suspect. Is the listening area a small part of the room? You might get away with a PB12 placed near field along with the Keenwood. Check out some of the new Hsu subs too.

There are other options, but these are some pretty solid ones that I know about.

Merry Christmas

Nick

Check out the HSU STF-2, which is on clearance. Looks like they're out of black, but still have silver:

$399 - $80 = $319 + shipping which is a very nice deal.

Thnx for the info, I will consider both HSU and SVS. I thought for my listening area I would need a bigger sub like the Klipsh. At least 12 driver to feel the "OOMPF". Thnx

You're going to need a really big sub(s) for that room.

What is your maximum budget?

Like Sheep and Nick said your gonna need one hell of a sub to fill that room with bass that you can feel. I'd keep saving till you get around the $1400 mark and buy a HSU VTF-3 with turbo or SVS PB12-plus/2 at the minimum.

.......then start saving for a second.:D

...or if you have access to wood tools, start looking at some DIY designs.

A bigger driver doesn't necessarily equate to bigger/better sound. I have a Klipsch KSW10 which is the slightly smaller brother of the sub you're asking about. IMO, it's very sloppy. It will fill out the low end if you don't already have a sub, but it's not clean or detailed, and either the HSU's or the SVS's mentioned would run circles around it. The KSW's also blow fuses easily, which probably won't be a problem finding replacements for the 12", but the 10" it's nearly impossible due to it not being a widely available fuse.

You do have a big room. For $400 you could also pick up two of the AV123 X-Subs.
