Klipsch HD300 vs Onkyo HT-S3400

Question to some of the more knowledgeable peoples out there: I'm putting together a speaker system for my PC and have narrowed it down to a Klipsch HD300 ($180) using an older Pioneer receiver (VSX-414) vs Onkyo HT-S3400 or SKS-HT870 speaker/receiver package ($300'ish). Can anyone offer me some insight as to:
Which will have better performance?
Tradeoffs between the two?
Possible issues when using with a PC?
Reasonable alternatives/improvements?

I feel that the Klipsch would be the far better deal even if it cost more. Onkyo doesn't seem to take speakers very seriously.
