Klipsch B-20 in 2.1 system?

I am thinking of pairing these with a networked CD receiver for a purely stereo / music setup.

Does anyone own them / have any thoughts on them?

Yes, you can do better for serious music listening.
Thanks for the reply. Obviously they're "budget" speakers, so you could do a lot better. I had heard good things about them.

I haven't chosen a receiver but something like the Marantz CR603 is the type of product I'm looking at. How much would you spend on speakers to "match the quality" of a receiver like that?

I would buy something to justify, the cost of the receiver/player.
Do you have a budget in mind?

That receiver + Klipsch B-20 is $1,000. That's about my budget but would look at anything up to $1500 if it made a very large difference in quality. Plan to play a lot of ipod and streaming mp3s so thought $1000 might be reasonable.

For the record, what did you like / not like about the Klipsch?
Spitty, shouty, squeeky and excessive sibilance. Also, lacking in the midrange.
It is decent for home theater.

If you're gonna spend a grand+ do you have the chance to go listen something to figure out what you like????

The Klipsch are ok, but for the application, you could get into the Klipsch reference line with a decent receiver- (any amplification and processing you'll be doing will sound the same) for your budget.

Insert 1,789,426 possible combinations here. Go check out some stuff to see what you like.

If I was spending your budget though, I'd spend as much as I can on speakers (what you'll be hearing).

Based on what you asked originally, Klipsch is easily out doable until you reach reference line, which I actually like quite a bit. Say- RF62's or 82's and simple receiver will rock most rooms...

Thanks for your advice. It is very welcome. I definitely plan to do as much auditioning as I can. I'm also interested in the experiences of people who've had those speakers, or who've bypassed them for something else for whatever reason.

You are on the right track - there are many options. Also, look at
NHT Absolute Zero, Classic Two > PSB Image speakers B5, B6 >
Definitive Tech SM 350, 450 speakers. It can be for you, a good
experience.
