Has any one ever heard of a speaker company called KLH I tried looking them up on the net but there website was down. I need a new subwoofer for my surround setup and don't have a lot of money right now and found a KLH subwoofer for $60. Also what are your opinions on using different name speakers in the same home audio setup.

KLH produces mainly low end mass market speakers. My very first set of speakers were KLH. I had also bought a KLH subwoofer for 99 bucks at costco which for the money wasnt bad.

For $60 it probably doesnt matter what you buy because it wont get you much. If you just want to add a little bit of boom in a basic setup then the KLH probably isint a bad way to go.

Mixing speakers in a theater setup depends on what speakers in particular you are mixing around. Subwoofers and surrounds are less important to match than the front left right and center.

I used to use KLHs back in college. If you want cheap speakers that you don't care if they get messed up, or want a speaker to base a project off of (like I did), then they are great values.

In my case, I bought them for the cabinets...added some bracing (OK, I added LOT of bracing, heh), gave it a real dose of poly-fill, remade the crossover and used better drivers. When done I had a set of speakers that gave a set of MTX PA speakers a run for the money in pure loudness, while still sounding pretty darn good. That was my first real speaker-building project.

For a decent low priced subwoofer you may want to look at some of the kits Parts Express puts out (if you are a fan of DIY projects), or check out Yamaha.

If it were me I think I'd rather look around on eBay and Craig's list for something used and local. That way you could avoid shipping charges and see/hear what you are paying for. The other thing this approach will provide you with is time with which you'll be able to get a little more money together, maybe.

As Haoleb said, the front 3 speakers should be matched.

I had some KLH bookchelves and a center quite some years back, they were poor at best, but very inexpensive.
