Hey everyone,
I am a DIEHARD Crimson fan. I'm only 20 but have been lucky enough to see them live as well as Adrian Belew Trio. As a 40th Anniversary to the band they have remastered 3 albums (in the court, red, and lizard) in 5.1 surround and they plan on continuing this trend for the next 12 months with the rest of their albums. They are being remastered by Porcupine Tree's Steve Wilson who has also produced a couple of Opeth albums which i think came out great. Has anyone had a chance to check these out?

I've heard Red in 5.1 it's quite good......I picked up ITCOTCK today but haven't listened to it yet[I heard today that Red's already out of print supposedly].

As long as Pat Mastelloto isn't on drums, I will check it out.

Opeth has some great music when they aren't doing death metal. I wish they would stick more with progressive rock.

awesome! Let me know how In the Court is. I have a 5.1 at my moms house but its a pretty piss poor theater setup. Sony AVR, PS3 would be the source, and Polk speakers. I dont have anything against either of those companies but its just not setup correctly and its not mine to rearrange so. Thats the only reason im hesitant to buy it. Id love for them to do a remaster of In the wake of poseidon cause thats one of my all time faves.

Bill Brufford is the man for sure but i dont see what you got agaisnt Pat Mastelloto. I agree 100% with your statement about opeth though. Damnation is a hell of an album but the heavier stuff i have a harder time listening to. Deliverance is decent but their straight up metal i cant listen to.

Other than the fact that Pat Mastelloto can't drum worth a crap, can't maintain a steady beat and is just overall a horrible musician, i have nothing really against him  Him Tony Kaye (keyboards) and Kenny G (sax) should form a band headed by Michael Bolton on lead vocals and call themselves "No Talent *ss Clowns" :)

Adrian Belew was there with the opening act for Porcupine Tree when they played in SF 2 years ago (pre-release FOAB tour), and they played a Crimson track. WOW, that was very fun.

I like Pat's stuff with KC but i cant say ive heard anything else hes done. The new line up is with Pat AND Gavin Harrison (porcupine tree) on drums. It was a pretty wild concert when i saw them.

The latest Dream Theater limited ed which I purchased has in addition to the album an instrumental only mix/no vocals (exc btw) and a third disc of covers. They do a KCrim tune...it kills. Almost everything S Wilson does is phenomenal except Riverside and the latest PT...disc 2 is good...on the fence about disc 1. IMO.

I have a King Crimson DVD with Bill Bruford and Pat Mastellato. I cringe evertime Pat screws up or plays out of time and makes a funny face like "oops" to Bill Bruford. I am an amateur drummer myself, but I am quite confident I can run circles around him any day of the week. I'd honestly rather see Ringo behind the drum kit with King Crimson instead of Pat.

Hmm, is that a knock on Ringo?
Not really. Ringo is a basic drummer with impeccable timing, something Pat lacks in both fronts.

The Incident has really grown on me. I like it a lot now, with the exception of a few tracks. That may have something to do with the fact that I had been listening to Insurgentes by Steve a lot prior to this though.

I think Ringo is a great drummer. Being a drummer is secondary to being a musician. Ringo may not have the most impressive or showy skills on a set but EVERYTHING he did just added to the music and that should be the main goal of a drummer or any other musician.

King Crimson remastered 5 1 albums

Pooperscooper is right. AFAIK all King Crimson albums were remastered in HDCD format. All of them are very well recorded, so IMO Id have a hard time trying to decide whether the SACD version is better in any way or not. I mean, the stereo SACD version which I suppose will be also included in the disc.

Does this post mean that we can roll out the drummer jokes?

I heard one of the announcers on the old Beyond Jazz XM channel reading a list of gigs and one was for a Washington D.C. club that had 'The Dead Kenny Gs' playing all weekend.

How do you know when a drummer is knocking at the door? :p:p

I don't know diddly squat about good drumming, except perhaps that I like the more melodic drummers, and I've been lucky to see a few, and very lucky to have seen Bill Stewart twice. That guy can do these polyrhythms that sound so cool, but I've got really no idea what's going on sometimes. All I care is that it sounds cool. :D

A- Because it's about 30 minutes after you ordered the pizza.

Here are some I heard from Tom Brecthlein- (http://www.drummerworld.com/drummers/Tom_Brechtlein.html)

Q- What's the difference between a large pizza and a drummer?

Q- How do you get a drummer off your front porch?

Q- What did the drummer get on his SAT test?

Q- How do you know the drum riser is level?

Q- How do you know the pizza is delivered by a drummer?

Look at what I found:
