the Jets only score on a punt return (75 yards) and an interception return (87 yards) and you blame the kicker for losing ?

sounds to me like there was 11 other guys out there not doing their job...

and they all play offense

Who care what the offense did? They got the kicker into "range" (or would have had be been even average) twice and he blew it both times. The score was tied! No, I don't blame him for everything, but for Gods sake, when you get a good snap and hold you just can't shank one that bad from only 43 yards! Not a chip shot, but that wouldn't have hit from 25...

into range ?????? didn't the, ummm, DEFENSE, get the ball back in range ???

is ONE offensive touchdown too much to ask from Pennington (making about $ 8 mil a year) and Martin (a cool $ 6 mil) versus a kicker who might make $ 1 mil.

the offense had 60 plays.. no scores... the kicker had 3 plays and got something...

blame the kicker all you want but Roger Staubach and Fran Tarkenton and Dan Marino and Ken Stabler and John Elway and even Terry Bradshaw would never have left it up to a kicker....

And if you gotta depend upon a kicker for the life of your team .... it better be Morton Anderson.

Maybe I'm a bit spoiled for a kicker who 99% of the time gets the job done.
Sure the Jets offense was all but non-existant, but the Steelers, a 15-1 team, could do no better than match the Jets score. In a defensive game, when the score is tied, with only seconds left, you generally expect a kicker to come in and put it away. Regardless of his pay, that is his job.

Every one of those guys did just that at some point! The Steelers have the #1 defense in the NFL this year. That's precisedly why you can't squander the shots they give you. In one of those shots, the Jet's D got em the ball, but not at the spot they kicked it from.

Hey, I don't wanna have the dude shot or anything- I'm just saying that under normal circumstances he probably shoulda hit at least one of them. He's hit many 50+ yarders in the past. He just suffered the ol' choke-o-rama this time. ;)

I guess you watched a different game than I did... the Jets "scored" on two fluke plays.. The Steelers, on the other hand, had nearly 100 more yards of offense and 10 more minutes of possession (76 plays) than the Jets (63 plays). The Steelers spent 5 plays, 7 plays, and 12 plays getting points in regulation play. They added 14 more plays and 8 1/2 minutes on the final drive, basically driving it down the teeth of the Jets defense.

Had the Jets special teams not shown up, it probably would have been a blow-out. The offense even had a critical penalty in overtime that made them punt, even though they got the ball first.

In my book, there's no doubt who was the better team. On this particular day, it was better to be good than to count on being lucky.

Hmmm...being good wasn't enough for the Steelers today. Their *** was saved by being lucky. I guess in the end they were 3 pts better. ;) In any event, they'll probably need to do better next time. Neither the Colts nor Pats kickers are likely to miss 2 clutch ones. :p

Anyway, what makes the Steelers offensive scores "skill" and the superb defensive play of the Jets "luck"?

no doubt the AFC playoffs will probably go down as some of the best match-ups in recent memory. It's been a while since so many different teams have been so evenly matched. :)
