I have a Kenwood VR-2080. All of a sudden(according to my son), it stopped working. When I tried to turn it on, it came on with dim lights, then proceeded to shut back down. Does anyone have any ideas as to what can be wrong, or what can I do to fix it instead of replacing it. I know, I know, it's old, but I'm really not in a position to spend that type of money for something new. Well, I can, but my wife would murder me. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum!

I'd try the following:
1. Unplug everything from it and then try to power it on. There might be something causing it to go into a protection mode (such as a speaker wire short circuit). If it comes up fine that way, then let us know. You'll just want to be careful in how you connect everything back up to it in order to make sure that the connections are good.

2. Unplug it from the wall socket, wait about a minute, and plug it back in...then try to power it up. Sometimes a microcircuit gets locked up and needs to be fully powered down. Also, sometimes it takes more than a minute for that to be successful. My receiver stopped working last month, and it took a couple of days, but it started working again. Strange, I know!

3. Check your fuses, like Scott suggested. I'd think that it wouldn't come up at all if the fuses were out, but that could be it.
