I recently received a pair of Kenwood S-933 speakers. The specs are as follows:

Crossover Frequency: 1,500 Hz, 6,000 Hz

Weight: 23lbs each
My question is, "What the hell are these things and where did they come from???"

I can't find anything on the internet regarding these speakers. I live in the Caribbean so they can very well be something that is just not available in the mainland US. I can confirm that they were bought in an actual reputable electronics store and the gifter has a receipt, so this isn't a back of the truck special. They look nice enough.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get some reviews/background on these speakers?

Thanks for your help

Welcome to the forum!

That is a tough model to find on the internet! Are you certain that "S-933" is the full and correct model number? Any way to post some pictures for us to take a look at? FYI, you'll need five posts to include actual images, but don't worry about posting four junk posts here to get there so that you can show us the speakers.

Hmm, still says I can't post attachments.
I know that you can do certain things after five posts. Perhaps it's ten posts for attachments. If you have a Photobucket or Flickr account, you can post a link to that...or just try an attachment after ten posts.

Those are nice looking! I still haven't been able to find anything on them. Maybe someone else here can help?

Have you had a chance to listen to them? If so, what did you think?

Also, were the speakers by themselves or part of a larger system? If part of a larger system, do you know the model number for it?

I haven't listened to them since I haven't even purchased a receiver yet. (This gift was a bit premature, but thoughtful!)

The speakers (as far as I can tell) are not part of any larger system. They included their own product manual and it doesn't mention any other components.

Is there a year printed on the manual? I'm guessing those are a relatively new model based on the "Digital AV" printed on the front.

They may be from a all in one rack system, when they used to sell those, or do stores still sell all in one rack systems?

Anyways I am betting my money on a all in one rack system, you know receiver, tape deck, CD player, maybe even a turntable, and a rack to put it in. The speakers will have 140-160 boomy bump to them. Specs notice no +/- 3dB on frequency response stats so I expect something that would measure out closer to +/- 6dB maybe even 10dB .

Try them out, you may like them, but I bet their boominess and a 2" tweeter that has no real clean highs are going to make you move along in short order. But those are all guesses, good luck with the new speakers! :)

No year.

I emailed Kenwood USA and the guy who emailed me back was stumped but curious. He emailed me again sometime later and told me that these speakers were only available in Europe and I should try to contact them.

I went to the Kenwood Europe page but I can't find a contact email for the life of me. There's a phone number, but that's not really ideal.

I looked through a few of the European websites yesterday (U.K., Italy, Germany, etc.), but I couldn't find "S-933" anywhere, either. I don't think that I checked every one, though.

You could start with their U.K. offices by e-mailing them at enquiries@kenwood-electronics.co.uk. I found that by going directly to the U.K. website and selecting "Contact Us" under the "Company" tab on the top menu.

They're cheap Kenwood speakers. Kenwood isn't exactly known for high end home audio speakers, and they're very light for a speaker with an 11" woofer. Other than that, I'm not really sure there's much else to know about them.

Thanks Adam. Email sent.

Nicholas, I think we all realize that they are cheap Kenwood speakers. It's just natural curiosity that makes me want to dig up some background on them. In today's day and age, it's just not often that you can't google a product and find a ton of links and information on your subject.
