Kef vs Definitive In-wall for HT

I am building a HT system and will use in-walls. I am debating between the Kef Ci9000ACE and the Def UIW RLS II for use as L/C/R. It is impractical to test each of these in my system before making a decision. Does anyone have an opinion between these two? The Kef costs nearly 2x the Def.

Yeah, I'm going with KEF, Revel, JBL, Infinity, or Pioneer. :D

I'd go with the KEF over the DEF any day. :p

I like Def Tech, but they get absolutely no respect from a lot of people, which hurts resale value. KEF & Revel will hold their value for sure and probably sound better. :D

It really comes down to the fact that the KEF is a point source and the Def is not. The KEF will be easy to place and easy to deal with once placed. The Def will be a pain in the *** because of all the constructive and deconstructive intereference.

I've heard some Def Tech ceiling speakers and they sounded great from any position/ location in the room. The sound was crystal clear. And with subwoofers, the overall sound was pretty great. So all that point-source theory is great, but how they actually sound is another thing.

I still don't recommend Def Tech speakers, though. :D

I don't think an anecdote can disprove a scientific/mathimatic certainty. :p*

That said, the CTC is very close so the effects will be minimal. With the point-source the effect will be almost nonexistent. :D

*I hope that didn't sound snippy. :D

No snip taken. :D

Proven physic/ mathematic theories are difficult to disprove.

But the human physiology of how an individual cerebrum interprets any stimuli (including wave & sound propagation) is not physics/ mathematics.

Take that. :p

Physics + Physiology = Grey Matter. :D

Got to agree here... I recently heard some Def Tech RCSII in the ceiling speakers and they sounded pretty darn good. They had 6 of these around the ceiling and they were using 2 HSU VTF-15H subs. Not sure on the center. I say it all depends on the installation and this guy has got money to have it installed correctly.

If they sound great, then they sound great. :D

I think some guys (like young Engineering students with their whole lives ahead of them :D ) try to see things very black & white , such is the case with physics and mathematic equations. They may talk about how sound waves interact and propagate to produce sounds. It's a great start. It may get them pretty "close".

But they forget that individual cerebrums will interpret these wave interactions differently.

As an older guy :D in the medical field, I'm more into human physiology, which can be quite grey.

Like how we interpret colors differently. We interpret sound, taste, touch, and smell differently. :D

Guys, I'm not really drunk here. Really I'm not. :D

Your still young... As a old guy "retired" from the telecommunications and DOJ field, I'm more into "heck with technical" , how does it really sound which is quite black & white and heck with color, I'm color blind. :D

Wait a minute now. That's not quite fair. :p The OP asked me (us) which speaker he should go with. Telling him how I like it (I've never heard it) would be pointless as we all have different cerebrums. If he wants to know exactly how it sounds..he needs to hear it. I can tell him, however, which speaker will be better from a technical standpoint for his situation. This is all I can do. :D**

If you two both liked it, obviously you were at the right distance, the dips and/or peaks didn't bother you much, or the reflections smoothed out the response a bit. *shrugs*

**To be fair, I am very technical and analytical in most things I do. I wouldn't say I look at things as if they are black and white, however. If I could, I would factor in how his cerebrum interprets sound and tell him exactly how it sounds to him, but I lack this ability (and a MRI machine.) It's not that this is black and white, but that I lack, and will forever lack, a significant variable. I can only solve part of this equation. :p

oh no you lack the knowledge given to mortals by the gods ( just finished watching Ancient Aliens) to analyze sound and it's structure. :D, and it's appears AcuDefTechGuy has been given the gift:D
PS: I have access to a MRI machine, but my knee will be in it for the second time.

All this talk reminds me of that Engineering joke I heard when my major was still Engineering. Something to the effects "A guy walks into a brain shop to buy a brain...the PhD Brain cost $1000...but a Dumb Brain cost $10,000.."

Why? Because the PhD Brain w/ years of life and experience is "USED" and the Dumb Brain is "BRAND NEW", young, and full of life! :D
