keep losing sound

I have a Yamaha RXV 2095 receiver about 15yrs old, hooked up to a new Samsung 4k tv. My problem is shorly after startup, the digital light on receiver goes off then I lose sound for 3-4 secs, when the light comes back on I have sound. This happens as long as its on. I have checked all connections and replaced the optical cable from rec to tv. I know my receiver is old, but its always worked great. If I need to replace any ideas for $5-600? Thanks

Since this problem only seems to have manifested itself with the addition of the new TV, I'd guess there's some conflict between the TV and the receiver. While waiting for someone more knowledgeable than I to respond, you might want to check the manual(s) for setting any options for the digital output.

But, unless I'm mistaken or things have changed, you're only getting two channel PCM from the TV's optical output unless you have the TV on an antenna.

I should have mentioned, I was having same problems with older samsung tv. I looked at both manuels and everything is hooked up corectly. I will be bummed if I replace receiver and still have issues. but I think its receiver

Well, since the problem occurred with both receivers, it sure looks like it's something with the receiver. But, look at the bright side here. You can get a lot more receiver for a lot fewer $$ nowadays.

Have you tried a different Optical In or a different source?
