Kaleidescape's new Alto Movie Player looks exactly like the Cinema One from a year ago. If you only look at the specs, you'd be forgiven if you thought there was no difference at all. The fact is that they did change something for the Alto Movie Player - the way Blu-ray discs are streamed and handled. The Alto fixes the one glaring problem with the Cinema One while nerfing the one thing that made the Cinema One unique - the ability to rip your Blu-rays to the internal drive. The question is, if all the rest of the hardware is the same, how come the Alto costs $1,500 less than the Cinema One?
