Guys, quick question... has anyone used this projector? if so, thoughts on it? I am trying to figure out why it is double the $ of the Epson1080 and Panny AE2000.
Any comments appreciated!

I own one. It costs more for a few reasons. It uses LCOS panels instead of straight LCD panels, It has a native contrast ratio of 15,000:1 (there is no iris used to trick you into seeing contrast that isn't really there), it has a sealed light path so dust can't settle on the panels resulting in dust blobs in your image - there are numerous other differences but these are among the biggest. I compared it side by side with the Epson and to me there was no question which machine was better - the JVC's picture quality trumped the Epson in all categories by a large margin. Of course, this is just my opinion - others may have a different outlook.

This kind of question is highly subjective. You could ask "Why run expensive separates when a $500 receiver will do the job?" The answer is different for everyone. The bottom line answer is determined by deciding what you feel comfortable with spending, what level of performance you're looking to get, how long you plan on keeping the equipment, the kind of viewing/listening environment you will be using the equipment in, and a host of others. For me, I wanted to get the absolute best picture I could for under $5K. I didn't care what it cost as long as it was under the $5K mark. I looked at everything I could find locally in that category and when it came time to buy the JVC stood out head and shoulders above the rest for me.

I also have one. The PQ puts my local theaters to shame. Every guest so far has agreed. In fact, they are more convinced of their opinion than I am of mine. Its nothing short of glorious. Sorry, please excuse my heavily biased subjective blather, because it's even better than expected, and I was expecting a lot.

I was going to get that Pana later this year. Some liken it to the poor man's RS-1. Then I ran in to RS-1 open-box fire sale at AVS. They sold out in one day. Got it for 3k (just a few hundred more than the local Costco/Pana price), replete with 2 yr warranty, only 3 hours on it. Pulled the trigger very prematurely, but Im sure glad I did. If you are a bargain-hunter, I would bookmark the Digital Hi-end PJ subforum, and check in daily as a ritual. That firesale was not the first, and it won't be the last.

There is an interesting tweak thread that supposedly gets the RS-1 to the performance level of an RS-2! Not for me though... Id be too scared, and also, I am way more than satisfied. However, this is my first PJ, and I hardly qualify as a real videophile. Im a movie-phile. :p

So... for your puchasing conundrum. Its impossible to say what to do. Some buy Kuro's, others get a Panny. Some get DLPs, others get XBR-2 sxrd. Value is always subjective.

Thxs! The reviwes on the JVC are very good! And my HT guy swears by it... Question though... where did U find it for under 5k?? Everywhere I look it is $5,500 plus! This is my first entry into Proj/Screen as I am moving into a new house that has a dedicated MR. I don't mind spending the money if the increased $ is justified... sounds like it is.

BTW... what screen R U using?

Thank you!
