JVC receiver question

I'm in the process of setting up my mini home cinema. I've bought the projector and the speakers, both of which work very well. I'm now on to the stage of buying a 5.1 amp to drive all of the speakers.

I've got the opportunity to buy a JVC amp, but my concern comes with the specs. As a total newbie to this, I'm not sure how much the THD affects the sound. The JVC quotes the following;

Amplifier
Output Power
Front channels: 100W per channel, min. RMS, driven into 8 ohms, at 1kHz with no more than 10% total harmonic distortion
Center channel: 100W, min. RMS, driven into 8 ohms, at 1kHz with no more than 10% total harmonic distortion
Surround channels: 100W per channel, min. RMS, driven into 8 ohms, at 1kHz with no more than 10% total harmonic distortion

My speakers are rated at 100W per channel, 8 ohms.

All I want to know is, does the 10% THD of the amp mean the sound will be crap from the speakers?

Help please!

10% THD is the kind of spec you see on 'boom-box' type portable stereos or low-priced all in one office systems you can buy at a department store.

There is still some debate on how much THD is audible but no reasonably designed receiver will ever be more than 1%. A decent receiver from any of the top-tier names will have THD of less than .1% with most giving specs of .08% or .09%.

Also, the power rating into 1 kHz is misleading. You want to see the power rated 'full bandwidth' (20Hz - 20 kHz). If only the 1 kHz rating is given it is often an attempt to make it appear more powerful than it really is as the power output at one single frequency will always be greater than a full bandwidth rating.

I would guess and say yes , but the best thing you can do is , ask and see what there return policy is like . Take it home and try it out , if you dont like it take back and try another brand in the same price range . Future Shop has a great return policy . :)

10% THD??
Come on. That's gotta be a misprint.

JVC, is IMO on the lower end of the scale (I'm being nice) as far as audio equipment goes. But 10% seems below even their standards.

QS, do you have a model number?

that ain't a misprint

and that's a pretty dismal power/distortion spec but you've got to take into consideration the selling price of this thing. Obviously, it's a very entry level receiver and, for many people, this will be all they ever need.
