JVC HD-Ila Fan Noise

Hi All,

I recently purchased a 52" JVC HD-ILA tv. I love the picture quality and the looks (the blue LED on the black is kind of nice so far -- not sure if it will get annoying later on).

My big concern is the fan noise. It's _really_ noticeable. Is this normal? I'm concerned about movies with quiet times (I'm a big fan of submarine movies -- please hold the jokes :p ). I talked to the store, and they said the fan noise is normal, and it would "blend into the background". There is no way this fan will blend into the background.

This is also my first rear projection TV. Do all RPs suffer from this fan noise issue, or is the JVC just bad in particular?

Fan Noise

I have had my JVC set since November 2004 and have not had a problem with fan noise. I can hear the fan when the set is shutting down but while it is on the fan cannot be heard. Maybe you can answer a question for me. I accidently reset my theater pro settings, Could you post the default settings for detail, brightness etc. Thanks.

If you search this site you will find several complaints about the fan noise on the JVC. You would think JVC would have fixed this my now. That's too bad because the TV has a terrific picture. I'd return the TV and try another one. If that doesn't work try the Mitsubishi or Samsung DLP's.

Sorry cschweitzer, I returned the TV already for a 42" Plasma (so I know there will be no fan noise). On the other hand, it does have annoying squeal now. But I can work with that at least :)

My 61" has a barely noticable fan sound in a dead silent room. I have never heard it during a movie. The great picture this set has is outstanding.

I've read/heard that RPTvs share the same fan noise issue. Mine is a Mits WD-52725 and have the same problem during quiet movie passages-noisy fan...I'm thinking of some noise absorbing materials to get around this...or might replace the fan(s) with a quiet PC fan.
