Justin Trudeau has resigned- now what happens?

He'll remain in office until a new party leader is chosen during a leadership convention. Members of the Liberal party will be eligible to vote for candidates.

He also prorogued Parliament until March 24th, in order to give the party time to select a new leader (who, as a result, will become PM).

He clearly did this so that the opposition parties wouldn't have an opportunity to vote non-confidence in the HoC - which would trigger an election. It would be terribly inconvenient for the Liberal party to try to hold a leadership convention while simultaneously conducting an election campaign without a new leader.

The polls have them well out in front. The concensus is that the next election will see them elected with a healthy majority. It won't matter who replaces Trudeau. The bigger question is how many seats the Liberals will lose.

Does the Parliament have upcoming legislation or debate that's particularly urgent in the short term, or can some of it wait?

Any pending legislation makes no progress while Parliament is not sitting. When the house is eventually recalled, the opposition say they will motion a non-condidence vote, which all indicators point to the government being defeated. If so, an election will be called and any legislation in the hopper will be DOA. The annual budget covers regular expenditures, so we don't experience budget crises the way you do in the US.

You mean our 'Congress and POTUS spend money like drunken sailors who are on their first shore leaver in 100 years"?

Biden and Harris said that the economy is fine many times. I beg to effing differ.

Total US government debt- $35.7 TRILLION
2024 budget deficit- 1.8 TRILLION

Congress' approval rating- 12%

We're a bit sensitive about such suggestions, even if made in jest.
Now you know why many of us react strongly to certain comments- we know the US is effed up and there's damned little we can do about it because everyone in DC is so GD arrogant. It's hubris, really. Everyone tells us "You need to fix that, ASAP!", but we can't.

Inside, I believe that if everyone had an idea about what biden has done and given away during his term, he wouldn't have been elected.

You may have seen that he pardoned 37 out of 40 from death row- a couple of them have refused clemency.

No, I'm referring to US Government shutdowns when there is a disagreement over budget allocations. That isn't a "thing" here.

Someone should explain to President-elect Trump that each of the ten Canadian provinces and three territories will become an US state, so thirteen new states. Then show how they vote.

That should make him shut up.
