Can someone justify for me the price difference of the Panasonic
TC-P65ST60 over the 60. $2300 vrs $1500. Correct me if I'm wrong, were're looking at 2.5 inches diagonally over the 60. I'm sure there will be some street prices much lower than the above, am I missing something? Thanks guys.
Cheers Jeff

Wouldn't that be 5 inches bigger diagonally? Google tells me you'd be getting a 17.36% larger screen.

Darn you. I saw that thread title, and thinking that six inches may finally be a possibility, I ran to get my credit card. But, no, just talk about TVs.

:D

I don't know why you say 2.5" diagonally, as it is 5" diagonally different. Either way, within a certain band of sizes, the cost per viewing area will be similar - and differences will mostly be due to the market. Above a certain threshold, though, you've moved into a lower demand and hence lower supply area.

Btw, am I the only one old enough to think that $1500 for a 60" flat panel is freaking awesome? :D

If I had the disposable income I would get the larger TV...You always get that "I should have ponied up for the bigger TV" feeling a short while after living with the new set. If the money is a problem get the biggest set you can afford and just be happy with it.:)
I gotta say, I've been happy with my 50" since buying it. So, you don't always regret it. :)

That, and prices keep dropping. Sure, there have been articles (including by AH) that said that prices would go up, but they haven't so far. The tech keeps getting cheaper. That 60" is the same cost as my 50" in 2009. My point? There's some rationale in not buying a TV size with a high premium now, but rather saving that money to use in a couple of years to get a newer TV. Then, you have two TVs (or one after you've sold/donated/gifted the other one) for not much more money.

2.5" each way but why not just say 5"? Anyway I think it's more telling to figure out the increase in square inches like in the diagram Doug posted. It's not so much that 5 inches is worth an extra 800 bucks, you're worth an extra 800 bucks. You probably need a bigger sub too. :D

when you think it's big enough ... go bigger.

i regret buying my 54" display. hung on the wall, it looks tiny.

oh, and a 5" difference is massive ... even though you're talking about tv's

How far are you from the screen? If viewing distance is immaterial, 65 all the way.

"I'm ok with smaller", is what she never said and neither did I, for TV size :D.

Silly question from the guy with all those PSA subs :p

I have my old 46" panny plasma, I sit at within the recommended distance to see 1080P and it still feels like I'm watching a 13" screen. Go as big as money allows and you'll never regret it.

So many opportunities for size jokes here...no, don't go there...but so..tempting...must resist...

In all seriousness, I went 65" for my plasma. But you haven't said what you are upgrading from? I have a family member that had a 42" die and they replaced it with a 46" and he is wondering if he should have gone with a 50". But they were originally replacing a 32" tube TV.

My point is there are many factors, but typically, you want to go as big as you can afford. Now, if you have a tiny room (no jokes please), then you can get away with smaller. If it is a really dark room, maybe go projector so you can fill the wall. That is really cool and I would have done it except for the massive sunlight and the ceiling fan. Ok, I'm not helping.

Only you can decide if the $800 is worth it.

Thanks guys for all the replies, I'm really not replacing a TV just adding another, like Alex (Fuzz) not you King Kong ;) I gota setup another HT for the subs, not really, I'm making a parlour room for my wife and have some older electronics to get her started with her HT, she has really taken to the idea, we're both old and like staying home and entertaining ourselves, I really don't think she will even miss that extra 5 inches :D. I won't go there, I'm a man of faith. Anyway I really wanted to get the ZT series, CNET comparing it to the Pioneer Kuro's but way too much $$$$$, I think a good sound system makes the picture quality better. :) I'm not really into 3D and that 65" Panny TC-P65S60 is really tempting at under $1500 seriously. I paid $2000 four years ago for a 50" Panny PZ77. Any thoughts on the S60 series? Here is the 50"

Yes 2507 my friend, you read my mind, I do need a couple of bigger subs now too, the 111 pounders are getting too easy to move around now with the Magic Carpet Sliders, they say they can handle up to 500 pounds per four sliders :D

Congrats on your decision JN. I have a 37 inch Vizio 9 feet away and feel it looks great, although I do have an itch for deeper blacks, but there Is always an excuse to get a Panny 50 inch is the far future isn't it?! Enjoy my friend.:D
