I just recently cleaned up all my wireing, tapeing them, putting them in their own individual tubes to keep simple and AVOID nasty inerferance.

But many know my story already BUT, I'm trying to pin point the problem of some ssssshhhhhhh noise that comes out of my Speakers when turned up NOT Blasting them at max But a Have your FULL attention loudness :D.

It's a very consistant ssshhhhhh noise much like a FM radio station that is just barely comeing in.

MY QUESTION IS: Would it be a BAD idea to wrap the Sub Woofers cables with the main speakers cables? Taped together and then put in to a Rubber tube for sheilding purposes??

I know many think my setup is quite crappy BUT I think all but the SSSSHHHH noise it performs GREAT and Sounds GREAT. So I was thinking, it's eaither those cables wrapped together or that Radio Shack cable I'm useing ( Anolog Red/White on one end and Headphone Jack on the other).

Please let me know about the subs wrapped with the speakers wires, Good Idea Bad Idea???:)

THANKS EVERYBODY

The sub cables carry only very low frequecy information and are not going to affect the speaker cables, so it should be fine to bundle them with the speaker wires.

Power cables on the other hand may affect the speaker cables. If possible, keep them at least 6" away from signal interconnect cables and speaker wires; if that is not possible try to cross them at 90 degree angles to minimize interference. Having said that, the Shhhh sound is not likely being caused by the cables.

Hey,

THANKS, IF its not that (and I was kinda hopeing it was :p ) it must be that way of getting Audio to play on my stereo!!! NOOOOOOO :(

It may be a radio shack cable but EVEN a High end cable probly wouldn't shake the noise. Atleast it May or May not.

What a journy this is turning in to.

I know I should probly just get a whole new Speaker setup, but for the Sound I want it's gonna be $800 +

My guess is that the noise you hear when you crank up the volume is simply the high noise floor of the amp in that JVC boom box. The only way to get rid of that would be to get a new amp that is designed better.

Hey,
where would I be able to tell what size amp my stereo has and how good or powerful it is?

Also whats the stats on a Decent Amp.?

THANKs Everybody :)

I dunno. I no nuttin bout nuttin.

Just a shot in the dark. But it might very well be that your "consistant ssshhhhhh noise much like a FM radio station" is that your FM Tuner is sitting directly atop the non-isolated "amplifier" of your
PLASTIC JVC BOOMBOX!!!

For those within listening distance, please excuse the shout.

Any questions?

Start Low$$ Go Slow

Don't scurry out and buy a new amp, posh cables, etc.
Isolate each wire from your system by detaching each line, first subwoofer, then listen, then right front, listen, left front, then listen, repeat for all lines you may have from your amp.
See if you can establish where your problem is.
Then if you eliminate the noise, then switch out that cable with an alternative that is not causing your predicament. If your noise disappeared, possibly the cable, if not, perhaps your amp.
Could be cables position, though rare. Moving the power cord may help as the other poster listed also.
Do you have a Florescent light fixture near by, this can occasionally cause problems.
If its the amp and you like it, probably needs minor adjustments and cleaning that could run your around $75.00. You can decide if it’s worth the investment. Hope this helps.

As a couple others have mentioned the noise you are hearing is pretty much guaranteed to be the fact that the components in your boombox are of low quality. Don't feel bad. They basically all are like that. You'll notice even with other gear like say a low quality receiver if you put your ear next to the tweeter you can hear a hiss type sound, If you move up the line to more higher end amplifiers this sound nearly, if not completely disappears.

Also, putting cables into rubber tubes will do absolutely nothing to protect them aginst RF and EM interference. The cables you have already are probably shielded quite well and require no further shielding.

The only thing you can do to stop hearing that sound is to simply get a better sound system. Until that time comes you can try and keep the EQ on flat if its not already because if you have the treble turned up the noise will be more pronounced.

THANKS, Tubeing everything sure took awhile .

The speaker wires that come off the Stereo I have now are quite small and are likely NOT sheilded. Nor the Power cords.

Most speaker wires are not sheilded, You dont need to worry about interfernce as much with the high level signals like you do with interconnects and such.

The effects of interference with the length of runs you have is not usually going to be significant enough to produce any ill effects anyhow. It still is a good idea not to run power and signal cables together etc but you can pretty much rule that out from being whats causing your problem.

I'm not sure where you got the idea to put garden hose over the cables, At best all it will do is seperate the wires another fraction of an inch. In otherwords. Zilch.
