Just when I thought it was -it wasn't

I can only take refuge in the thought that others have been here before, as my Wife whom I constantly chide about making up her mind will NEVER let me live this down!
I thought I had decided on the Denon 2809CI and went down to my favorite BB store to pull the trigger and low and behold they had a Yamaha RXV 3800BL on sale at the same price! They are both discounted well below the 1k mark and priced to the penny the same. Which one would you buy? All the network stuff I do not need as I either listen to the FM or play a CD for music and of course play DVD&Blu-Ray on my HDMI 1080p 52" HD TV hooked thru Sat. HELP

IMHO, I would still take the 2809 over the Yammy 3800. Granted I do have a biad towards Denon as a current owner, but I believe you get the new GUI with the 2809 and I have read that the interface on the 3800 leaves much to be desired. This in of itself, would be enough for me to choose the Denon....

Thanks Chopin_Guy. I have come to understand from the forums that the Denon remote and GPU can be a pain tho. However the upside of that would be the possibility that in this multi family home I live no one would mess with it after they came to the conclusion they couldnt turn it on:rolleyes:
My main question would be the functionability and pure listenability of either unit. Were those real words?:D

Well if those are your terms...both units are very similar in terms of features and capabilities. The slight power difference in power you will not notice the difference unless if you need to power some speakers that pose a bit more a load on the amp...

Really it comes down to what you are more familiar with and prefer. I like the Audyssey features of Denon and its new GUI over the Yammy for sure. Either way you cannot go wrong...they are both solid units....

Thanks again Chopin Guy. I am leaning back toward my original choice of the Denon I believe. I will take some audio material with me tommorow and do a listen up on both of them. My current set up is rather straight foward and simple.

Thanks Chopin_Guy. I have come to understand from the forums that the Denon remote and GPU can be a pain tho.
I heard that, too, and though I looked at some D*non AVRs a year or so ago when I was shopping for one, I decided on a newer Yammy.

But if C_G says that D*non has a new and better GUI, I have to believe him. :)

Everything else C_G said is great: No appreciable difference in power, both good units...

So as some people here I respect like to say, get the unit that suits you best. You can't go wrong.

Thanks ChrisJam.I went today and did a compare between the Yamaha V1800 and the Denon 2809. Played the sound track of Battlestar Galatica last season, as it is the most sonically challenging that I have. Then did some tracks off of an early SRV studio cut as it has some real fast and crowed passages with some highs that have given some speakers a hard time. The Denon just had a little richer (more full) sound, left the eq's flat on both and switched back and forth. The Yamaha had a more in your face mids to it. Both were great tho. I played with both of the GPU's and found them both easy to use. I did not try either remote tho.
