ya...
People often read way too much into these things - one silly lawsuit is filed and people want to get rid of the legal system.
I was going to be surprised if any lawyer filed something that so obviously is not going to win. I was right, because no lawyer filed it for him.
From the article:
Allen Heckard filed the suit himself
It will go nowhere and there's a chance he could end up owing Nike's legals feed, and he could be restricted from filing more lawsuits.
There's a whole industry out to discredit the legal system: those who don't like the public having the power to get justice when wronged.
They put out phony and misleading stories, and they picked picked up by the reliable 'forwarded e-mail' system and other such methods.
For example, one said 'Woman won lawsuit for lost psychic powers after brain operation!'
Well, the truth was, she filed a lawsuit which included both allegations of improper medical care and lost psychic powers.
The jury awarded her some money for medial issues, and zero for lost psychic powers. But who's counting?
Of course many of the stories lack even the 'won money' part - they're just the fact that lawsuit was filed at all.
In a system with millions of lawsuits, I'm surprised how few nutty stories there really are.
