can these be reconfigured to be surrounds ? as in, they would be mounter up close to the ceiling. so just raising them up high is not good. they would have to be horizontal. so the driver configuration would have to be changed.
just thinking out loud.

For that price, do it. I don't think I'd want to mount them that high but maybe you could build some risers to raise them up about a foot or two. That would probably be sufficient and a lot easier than ceiling mounting them.

Yes I agree Dave. I would get some 1ft tall stands instead of ceiling mounting them. They will sound better IMO on the floor.

i mounted my current, elcheapo, rears today. i had em setting on top of the SWANS box's before. the rears are where the new rears are going to go, and the sides(tweeter height) are about where the new sides are going to go. i mounted the rears figuring that i would be using them for a while, til i deside on new ones. as you can see, the sides are not optimum.

btw. those are my new BERKLINES, power (nice). for the record. the color you see, is what they look like in direct sunlight. in my room lighting, they are a dark brown

Why do you want to mount your speakers so high? You said that your fronts are on 2' stands? How far above ear level is the tweeter in them? I've been trying to find a way to get my speakers down a little(not enough space) to have them ear level. I can see why the rears need to be up high, above the door. But the sides I can't understand.

Berkies they look real comfortable I would never make it through the whole movie too too relaxing, what is your thought to mount them in the same general area as the rears now lying sideways.

Laying the speakers on their sides (even raised off the floor) would not give a good surround effect. The speakers would be radiating too much into the listening area. Good dispersion is what makes for good surround speakers.

I always think additional Kappas make nice 2' stands. You could use 4 more of em.

i want my sides/rears to all be the same distance from my ears. and i feel they should be up higher.

no, my fronts are towers on the floor.

my thought is : make a new baffle. move the tweeter in between the 2 woofers. horizontal mount them up on the walls.

i am going to pick up a pair of these. used. very good price. so i will try em out, as i never heard anything but monopoles.

audioholics review :
"The Energy speaker system we evaluated was complimented with a pair of dipole surround speakers called the RVSS. Each RVSS speaker boasts two 3/4 inch ferro-fluid cooled soft domes and two 5 1/4 inch woofers with I.M. polypropylene cones and foam surrounds. These speakers work best when placed a few feet above ear level and slightly behind the listening area. We found these speakers to produce a very well dispersed surround field and felt at times as though they disappeared with the action leaving little need for DSP enhanced surround modes. They always played loud and clear regardless of the source and demand placed on them."
