Just stepped into the HTPC ring...

Just ordered a Lite-On Blu-ray drive for my current desktop. Bought the BD drive, a usb audio device for optical out to receiver, and a dvi-hdmi cable to go to the monitor. All for under $200.

I ran a diagnostic program and the results were good. My computer just needed the optical drive and I'm set:

Did some research and got a few programs. Everything should be here by the weekend and I hope to have my first entrance to HTPC completed by Friday night.

Now I just need to pick up "Four Brothers" on BD.

That is much cheaper than a ps3, but you couldn't have gone wrong with either. Good luck with your purchase.

yes, you're right... I thought a lot today about the direction I wanted to take. After doing some SERIOUS digging, I realized that the PS3 thing may not be what it's cracked up to be. Then, I got to thinking about the PC I already have. I hardly use it since my wife and I use the laptop around the house. Figured for a couple hundred bucks I could just add some things to my PC and be set. Plus, it's a little bit more future proof and more easily upgradable.

The fact that you do not intend to play video games does not add much value to the ps3. You are going to have a nice computer set up.

Got the drive in today. 30 minutes later and I'm watching Pirates of the Caribbean 2. Sexay! No issues whatsoever. My computer does just fine.

Man, I'm so pumped. It's connect to my 22" Samsung right now. Hopefully when I connect this to my tv everything will go smoothly.
