Just Received a Call from (999)-999-9999

What is the deal with this? I missed the call, but the missed calls shows (999)-999-9999 at the top of the list, Name Unknown.

I just Googled it, with limited results. Some guy said that it was related to Blockbuster, and their attempt to nab deadbeats by catching them off-guard. I also read that this number is a mask used by telecommunications all around.

Just curious, how many of you have received a mysterious call from this #?

It is VOIP, AFAIK. I got one that was (000)000-0000, and kept getting it, so finally I answered. It was my dentist reminding me about my appointment.

I used to know a guy who worked on setting up VOIP's for companies, he would call me one funny numbers all the time.

I got a 999-999-9999 call the other day... when I saw it I was like WTH? it was a blockbuster recording "reminding" me of a DVD I had checked out. I had only had it 3 or 4 days when I got the call... it wasn't really late! Guess they really wanted it back.

They called me after I had returned the movie. They are stupid.

I think the all 0's and 9's are also telemarketers or collection agencies. I had a call over a hospital bill that was all 9's from a collection agency. I've seen plenty of telemarketers that showed up as all 0's.
