So I finally decided on the Denon 3808CI and I am going to begin setting it up. It came with the mic, which my 3805 didn't come with. We will see how that goes. Thanks for your help guys!

I would still see about adding amplification to the front left and right channels at some point. That receiver has preamp outputs for connecting a more powerful separate 2 channel amplifier or mono-blocks.

Enjoy.:)

Great choice! I've had the 3808 for a few weeks, and still learning about all the myriad options. Overall, I'm impressed with it's sound and features. I second the recommendation for a separate power amp *if* you have higher end or inefficient front speakers. The Audyssey MultiEQ is impressive, but very sensitive to proper mic placement. Make sure you use a tripod, and stay out of the way during measurements. I've only run it once, but need to repeat it, as it set my Sub for -5 dB, likely a result of my not setting the default sub phase control optimally before the measurements. My main complaints with the 3808 are the difficult to use primary remote, and barely legible labels on the receiver. I need to keep a small flashlight next to it! BTW, there are two LONG sticky threads on AVForum.com discussing the 3808, as well as a general thread on the Audyssey system.

Does this reciever have a problem passing a video signal that is a converted DVI signal from the cable box to HDMI for the amp? I have a DVI-HDMI cable from the cable box and I am trying to pass it through the amp and just have the tv be the monitor only using one input with the amp doing all the video signal switching.

I have not encountered a problems when routing DVI-D from a Dish Network satellite box through a DVI to HDMI cable to my 3808. It worked as soon as i plugged it in. Sound is routed through a optical cable.

also is the Pure Direct setting where the amp display turns off the one to use for the uncompressed-lossless option on blu rays???

Do you know what speakers the OP is running to suggest external amplification on a 3808? So far, he's indicated that he's leaning towards the Klipsch Quintet II. Even that Denon is way more amplification that those speakers will ever need or use.

The quintet sl set is for my parents. I gave them my samsung 61" and my Denon 3805 but kept all my original speakers. They didn't want huge tower like I have and the set with the synergy sub-12 was way under a grand.

My setup as it stands now is

Mit WD-65833
Denon3808CI
Sam BDP1400

Mirage M3SI fronts
Klipsch KSC-C1 center
Polk Surrounds
JBL Surround back - which I am needing to replace with some sort of wall mount speakers
Powered JL 18W6 for sub

Seth was probably meaning that the M3SI's would be needing more power?

There should be no reason it doesnt work, I have not read anything to support that, I just received my 3808C in december :)

Make sure you assing everything properly.
1. Assign the DVI output on the cablebox or it will be shooting the signal out through the coax by default. (I know you probably have done this already)
2. Then make sure to assign the Audio input to HDMI"1-4" if using audio with that cable (dont know if you can? but my cable box has audio and video on the HDMI output so its a 1 cable setup), otherwise assign the appropriate input for its audio, and then set the the video input to the same HDMI"1-4". then you need to ensure the output for video is the Receiver not the unit otherwise the receiver assumes the video is going direct from the component to the tv.
