a pair of Polk S15 bookshelf speakers at a moving sale. Hooked everything up and sounds fine - paid $60 total. I'm thinking I got a good deal as it is a moving sale and the people (elderly) were looking to get going. I know nothing about the receiver or the speakers...any comments?

That brings back memories. I haven't seen a Sansui receiver since I bought a 9090 at a garage sale in like 83-84. Good luck with that thing.

Sansui S-x700....follow-up

Hey Sholling......thanks for the input. Yeah....I too remember the 'good old days'....having a rich college roommate who could afford a nice system for the room....which really provided the entertainment for the dorm! Was always staring at the displays, etc. in the dark room as it played. Actually, the older models had more in the way of needle gauges, signal bars, etc. so they were really cool to watch. Have this one hooked up for 2 days now and didn't realize it until i got it home that I can pre-set 16 stations each for FM and AM...!!! Sort of miss the days of spinning the tuning knob, but pressing the button on a pre-set is really the way to go. Speakers sound great too....don't know much about them - Polk Audio (??) bookshelf type. Very pleased so far......and the price really makes them a pleasure to listen to. All of this stuff is out there just waiting at some estate sale or moving sale...just sounds a lot better when you know the price made them a steal.

About 4.5 years ago, I had 3 vintage Sansui receivers. They were great receivers - made well, sounded great, etc. I cleaned them up with Deoxit (on the buttons, pots and controls) to get rid of any static sound that was present when you'd use the switch. One, I went as far as replacing the vinyl veneer with new veneer on the cabinet. I bought some "new-old stock" panel lights from a guy that was selling some off in limited quantities. It seems the parts get a little bit harder to come by as time goes by.

Then, we were planning a move, so I decided to sell them all off. Sadly, one of the receivers (the one I re-veneered) was damaged during shipment to the buyer. It could not be brought back to life. So, that one was disposed of. :(

AudioKarma.org has a thread where you can input your serial number of your Sansui receiver - as well as a good forum dedicated to classic gear.

Enjoy your Sansui!

I can think of someone who still has his Sansui amp/tuner dating back to the 70's. Knobs and analog tuning. His speakers finally gave up the ghost and he did not bother to repair or replace them. I'm glad you were able to find this gem, enjoy it, I hope it gives you much enjoyment.
