Just ordered a T amp!

Hi Guys,

I finally bit the bullet and ordered a T amp. For the price and the large amount of positive reviews, I doubt I can go wrong. I am going to use it basically as a zone 3 on my receiver that has only 2 zone capability. I use zone 2 as the patio speakers off of the internal marantz amp. I plan to use the T amp to power some old bookshelves I have in the dining room. I will connect it to the zone 2 pre-outs. I can then switch to "multi" or "multispeaker" depending on what I am listening to.

I will post back on my impressions when I get it hooked up. I got it off buy.com for $29 with the AC adaptor after applying for their credit card. I will pay it off then cancel it. I have done this with amazon as well. They give you $25 for nothing.

Does anybody know if I can run the multi (external amp) zone 2 at the same time as the multispeaker (internal amp) zone 2 on the Marantz SR-8400? I think I may give that a try, at low volumes of course.

What exactly is a T amp? Is it one of those inexpensive digital amps? For $30 it's worth a try.

I doubt you will be able to use the zone 2 pre-out and the internal amps at the same time. Most receivers have a menu setting where you get to choose one or the other.

If you do a google search, there is a huge amount of info on this thing. People modify them, etc. Yep, it's one of those cheap digital amps but seems to be much better than most. There are a few in depth reviews out there.

I do have 2 separate buttons on the front panel of my receiver, so it is possible to physically press both buttons, I am just not sure what the receiver will do in response to that.

Thanks,

Pat

I didn't know what a T amp was before reading your post. At first when I read the beginning of your post, I thought you must have bought a $2000 amp or something since you said that about bitting the bullet! For $30, that's a relatively small bullet! More like 'swallowing the BB!' :D

Let us know how it turns out after you play with it; might work well for something like bathroom speakers.

I guess you're right! :D I meant that I decided to go with that instead of an A/B switcher. I will post back when I get it.

Thanks,

So I just got the thing. Frankly, first impression is that it looks like a piece of crap:D

I have it running off my Marantz SR-8400 multi hookups for zone 2. I have the multispeaker (the extra two amps) running the outdoor patio speaker. Initially, the sound is a little muffled from the bookshelves. I will post back after some tweaking of the output level on the receiver, etc. Although you all think it is unneccesary, EVERY review suggests burn in time. I will try it to see if it gets better with time. For the record, I started with the tuner. It will likely be better on CD or my prismiq.

One thing I did find out is that this receiver can run two sets of zone 2 outputs at the same time, essentially 9.1. You can run the extra two amps and a separate amp at the same time. I have confirmed with marantz that this is OK and will in no way damage the amp. Added bonus for me!
