Now let me let you know now that i am using subpar speakers, I am running 2 shelf sony speakers with 2 sony rear surrounds along with a sony sub and a vega center.

Now my old system was a SONY str-db940, and it seems that it is cranking out more power. Now I just did the YPO setup and a few tweaks, I am just a little concerned. Is is the speakers? or should I just continue tweaking my settings?

What is the size of your listening room? and what is the impedance and sensitivity of your speakers?

za? zing? over my head. I am sorry I am a n00b.

I room is about 26' x 18' but it has a high ceiling, probably about 30'

I dont know the ratings for the speaker. I had them for a while. I know they are far from great. The fronts are actually just shelf speakers and I have them on the floor.

According to the numbers you gave me, you have a 14,040 cubic feet listening room and asuming you have moderately sensitive speakers (88db) with an 8 Ohm impedance, what can i say, you'll need something like a MultiChannel Parasound Halo to fill your listening room with adequate sound pressure levels. Your listening room is to large.

This receiver is capable of filling a 3,000 cubic feet listening room with adequate sound pressure levels (according to THX certification).

You can do two things:

1. Buy a dedicated power amp for each channel, or at least for the mains and the center channel and use your receiver for the surrounds (expensive).
2. Change your receiver to another room (less than 3,000 cubic feet in volume).

There's another option, very efficient speakers. Maybe something that's 101+dbs?

ok, i figured the speaker are the culprit. They are old and simply not designed for an amp like this.

Klipsch makes one of the most efficient and comercial loudspeakers that they are and they sound good (some people might say that they sound bright with Yamaha), so maybe those are the right for you.
