I've been in the market for a new reciever for my system for a while now. I stumbled onto this site while 'Doing my Homework' for the purchase and am quickly becoming hooked. Thanks for all the great info and reviews... :D

Before I really started shopping seriously I had my heart set on a Denon 3805. However, after trudging through a lot of the reviews here I decided that the RX V2500 was the unit for me. It replaces an aging Sony unit that served me pretty well for the last 5 years but is quickly getting tired and had become the achiles heal of my system. I got everything reconnected to the new Yammi last night and began playing with it. It's going to take a little while to learn all it's bells and whistles but my first impressions are as follows.

1; Great Build Quality -No Suprise here.
2; GUI is NUTZ!! I was not prepared for how nice that was going to be. Wow.
3; I really like the YPAO. It did an excellent job of setting everything up very quick.
4; I've got some learning to do. This thing is WAAAAAAAY more complex than my Sony.
5; Sound Quality and Amp Power is OUTSTANDING.

Overall, I'm still a bit overwhelmed by all that the 2500 offers and I think I'm still at the 'Tip of the Iceberg' as far as learning the thing but I'm already very, very happy with it.

Again, thanks for the great, informative site!!

You will be amazed after spending some quality time tweeking your system how good you can get it to sound. I guess I have had my 1400 almost a year, & still make little changes here & there. I think you made the right choice, but I am a Yamaha fan.

Congradulations! I've got a RX-V2200 which is dated compared to the RX-V2500, and it has done very well for me. Yours will do even better with the newer technology. :)

Thanks guys. :)

It's funny, I think I had kind of talked myself into believing that there wouldn't be that huge a difference between my old Sony and the 2500. I'm not sure if I had just set my expectations low(in attempt to keep from being dissapointed...) or what but this thing sounds great! And like I said, I'm a long way from understanding and using many of the features.

It's always nice when the research and stress of a large purchase(large for me at least...) is followed by the reward of such a nice product. I owe much of the credit to the Audioholics reviews too. ;)

The 2500 only weighs about 30lb. It is a 7 channel amp. I have an old 2 channel integrated Yamaha amp that weighs about 25lb. I am worried about 2500's lack of weight.

I have a 15 year old 2 channel Yamaha that weighs close to my Z-9 and they both sound quite good, yes the older amp is rated at 260W and can pump into 1ohms at 1000W if needed but these are features not required by an HT amp.

Weight can certainly be a clear indication of a more robust power supply.

I guess I'm wierd... I'd rather listen to it than weigh it. ;)

No, in all seriousness I understand the correlation between weight and power. Typically the more powerful the amp, the heavier it is.

While in general I agree with the weight issue, there's something to be said for miniturization as well. These are solid state devices.. and as well all know, today's 5lb notebook is exponentially more powerful than the 30lb desktops from 10-15 years ago.

If it sounds good to you, don't worry about it. If they ever make an amp that is as good as a high-end tube amp, but weighs 6oz and fits in my pocket, I'm certainly not going to complain!
