Just got my EP2500! How do i set it up?

I am going to run my EP2500 in bridged mono mode to a subwoofer. From sub pre out to an ED EQ.2.? Does the cable from the subpreouts go to one of the mono outs? And than the other mono out to the behringer?



What cables do I need for bridged mono? Do i need to hook up both inputs on EP2500?

Do i want balanced or unbalanced?

Do i want to use XLR or4" TRS?

And where do I set the 10 mode switches?

I have a 10" cerwin vega stroker in a ported enclosure. Its tuned @ 29hz but it will work for now. It was being used in my car.

One other question. To do a balanced connection do I just need XLR connectors or do I also need a balanced 1/4" TRS?

And what are the speakon connectors, how do they work?

The first thing we need to know is where is all this starting? Do you use a pre/pro or an AVR. Are we starting with an unbalance signal from RCAs on an AVR? Next, what are the input output options on the EQ?

Ok its an Onkyo TX-SR606. I will be using the sub pre out, not sure if thats balanced or not. The EQ is an ED EQ.2 and it has 2 mono outputs and a left and right input.

So you are unbalanced coming out of the AVR (RCA).

I have no idea about your EQ. Post some pictures and descriptions of it (back of it, I don't care what the front looks like)and I will take a look at it when I get back from the gym.

The EP2500 only accepts XLR or 1/4 inputs so depending on what your EQ offers, you will have to have a way to convert the RCAs to XLR or 1/4. This can be done via cables for unbalances or with something like an ART Cleanbox for balanced.

For Mono bridged out, remove the speaker terminal cover on the 2500 and use the middle post. It is clearly detailed in the manual. The toggle switches are also explained in the manual. Just look at that page, decide how you want to run it and flip the switches.

I don't see your link for the EQ. I don't mind helping you but you have to do some of the leg work (lol). Copy and paste the digram from the back of that thing or the user manual.

That cable you got will likely work but you could end up with a hum. Does your EQ allow you to go "in" with RCA and "out" with XLR?

That eq only has RCA out. Link has a pic of the back. Stereo in and 2 mono RCA outs.

So you just go AVR (RCA) subout>EQ IN (RCA)> EQ out (RCA toXLR)> EP 2500 (XLR)input 1.

Set your amp to Clip limiter on (mine is off but I'm like that)
low cut filter off
Stereo
bridge mode on

The last 3 toggles don't matter as they are input 2 and you are only using input 1. Make sure you turn the "channel 2" knob all the way to the left or "off" and adjust volume with the "ch.1" knob.

Use the two middle red binding posts for your speaker wire going to your sub.

I have the sub out to the EQ 'in' and the eq out to the TRS input 1 (I got the RCA to TRS at radio shack today cuz I couldn't wait for the RCA to XLR cable.

I did everything you said about the toggle switches but the SIGNAL light on the amp won't turn on.

What am I doing wrong?

You using the two middle binding posts?

You may have to really crank the sub level at the AVR and turn down the attenuation knob on the amp. Pro amps like a lot of signal going into them. You may also have a signal level in your EQ or the EQ could be on mute. Skip the EQ and go straight to the amp until we get it sorted out (after you try increasing the sub level at the AVR)

Yes I am using the 2 middle binding posts.

I increased the level up to +12db but nothing.

Went straight from sub preout to amp still no signal.

Would I not get a signal if the sub wasn't hooked up? It is possible that inside the box the connector came undone. Let me know if you have any other ideas and I will check the connection of the sub.

The wires weren't connected to the sub, but now its working. Thanks a lot for your help. I really like the way it sounds.

Glad it is working. You can try to turn the AVR sub level down a tad but it is probably ok up high. Some say that you can introduce distortion if it is up too high but others say it won't. I run mine on about 5 and then adjust the amp to balance out the sound.

Thanks paradigm!I turned the sub level down to 0. Its working great. I need to get an SPL eter from radio shack and mess with the EQ. Could you give me a link to the SPL meter everyone uses from radio shack?

Also I think my sub x-over works on my AVR, I changed it from 80hz to 120 and ran some test tones and I think they were quieter when I had it set at 80hz. Is the AVR x-over still in effect? Because my EQ does not have a x-over.

The AVR crossover still works. The EQ will only let you adjust the FR of your sub. The Behringer DCX has both functions, but costs significantly more. Here's the SPL meter that I'm using.

I just got an Eq.2 and am happy with it. It takes a good bit of time to get it dialed in, but it did an effective job of taming a couple nasty room modes. Just be sure to use the calibration tables for the RS meter.
