Just basic audio system

Hi

I just moved into a home with 3 sets of in-ceiling stereo speakers (a couple in the kitchen, a couple in the office and two in a bathroom) connected in series/parallel with an in-wall connector plate ( in bonus room) that has two sets of left/right plug ins.

I'm not looking to build a home theatre. I just would like to play music or news from iPod (ideally I can play different things in different room at the same time). I'm not sure what I need to buy. Do I need a receiver or do I need am amplifier? By the way each room has it own volume control.

Thanks
Chris

You need a multi-channel amplifier from a company that specializes in whole-house audio. Home Theater Direct is probably your cheapest option. They have a basic system for four pairs of speakers with volume controls and amplifier. Since you already have the speakers and volume controls, you might see if they’ll sell you an amplifier separately.
