I haven't had a chance to ask about it, but JTR announced a bit back they are coming out with the Growler Duo.

From what I can tell from the website, its an active twin driver horn loaded subwoofer with two modes: "LOW" mode is +/-3db from 20-180hz, "NORMAL" mode is +/-3db from 37-180hz. Low mode is 122db at 20hz.

Here is the best link I could find: http://jtrspeakers.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=4608644

I'm sure pictures will be out soon.

$2800 is expensive, but considering it has a built in 4,000 watt amp with DSP.... by the time you buy a nice pro-amp and a processor.... it starts to sound like more of a value.

Anyways, whatcha think!?

I think you could do really well and get great performance from a kit from AE Speakers that would perform as well for much less $$... Like a 15" and 2 x 18" PR, and an external amp. In EP2500 could easlity drive 2 of those... Or you could get a plate amp to drive it as well... Kit is around $1K + amp

That Growler sub is horn loaded with 2 x 10" drivers... But looks like it will perform quite well - kinda expensive though at $2799.

You can get alot of Subs for that kind of money... :)

There is some range as far as where the tuning would have to be. It depends on what is desired as far as low end extension vs higher output levels above 20hz. A pair of 1600gram PR's would tune to 21hz, 2100 tune to 18hz and 2500 tune to 16hz. Here are the models with the AV15H in the single 15 cabinet.

I would say thats pretty good output for cheap, I have heard this sub and its as clean and accurate as my F112

I'll let you know :)

Actually, I have been talking with Jeff about a larger 18" horn sub that he has designed. Drivers are being built and it will use the same 4K amp that the Duo uses. Now I don't need any more bass but you know how it is ... ;)
